It is no secret to us by now that in the United States, black women are 2 to 6 times more likely to die from complications of pregnancy than white women. The maternal death rate among black women was 37.1 deaths per 100,000 live births, a rate up to three times the rates for non-Hispanic white and Hispanic women.

It Takes a Village created this Birth Worker of Color Scholarship to provide aspiring and current birth workers access to funding as they seek further training that will help reduce these alarming disparities in the African American Community.

Criteria:

Must identify as BIPOC
Can be a future or current birthworker or midwife.
Funding can be for classes, trainings, test fees, book fees, application fees.
If what your needing is not listed please email us to see if your situation qualifies.

Applications are open, and scholarships will be awarded year round based on available funding.
